Prof. Shinji Hara

Professor Emeritus, University of Tokyo, Japan

Dr. Hara received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1974, 1976, and 1981, respectively. In 1984, he joined Tokyo Institute of Technology as an Associate Professor and served as a Full Professor for ten years. From 2002 to 2017 he was a Full Professor in the Department of Information Physics and Computing at the University of Tokyo. He is Professor Emeritus of Tokyo Institute of Technology and the University of Tokyo. His current research interests are in robust control, decentralized cooperative control for large-scale networked dynamical systems, system biology, and glocal control. ​

Dr. Hara has received many awards in control including the George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award from the IEEE Control System Society in 2006. He was the President of SICE (Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, Japan) in 2009, a Vice President of the IEEE Control Systems Society in 2009 to 2010, and an IFAC Council member from 2011 to 2017. He is a Fellow of IFAC, IEEE, and SICE.​

Dr. Daniel E. Koditschek

Alfred Fitler Moore Professor, University of Pennsylvania, USA

Dr. Koditschek is the Alfred Fitler Moore Professor of Electrical and Systems Engineering, within the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science where he serves as Director of the Penn Engineering Research Collaboration Hub (PERCH). Koditschek received his bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Applied Science and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1981 and 1983, all from Yale University. He served on the Yale Faculty in Electrical Engineering until moving to the University of Michigan a decade later. In January 2005, he moved to Penn as Chair of the recently formed Electrical and Systems Engineering Department, a position which he held through 2012.​

Dr. Koditschek is a member of the AMS, ACM, MAA, SIAM, SICB and Sigma Xi and is a Fellow of the IEEE and the AAAS. He holds a 2016 US Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship awarded by the US Assistant Secretary for Defense (Research and Engineering). He was awarded the 2016 IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Pioneer Award and the 2017 Penn Heilmeier Award for Excellence in Research. ​

Prof. Li-Chen Fu

Li-Chen Fu received B.S. degree from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, R.O.C., in 1981, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of California, Berkeley, U.S.A. in 1985 and 1987, respectively. Since 1987, he joined National Taiwan University, and has been awarded Irving T. Ho Chair Professor and NTU Chair Professor since 2007 and 2020, respectively. Currently, he serves as Director of NTU Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Robotics. So far, he has received numerous academic recognitions, such as Distinguished Research Awards from National Science Council, Taiwan, R.O.C., Macronix Chair Professorship, Academic Award as well as National Chair Professorship from Ministry of Education, Taiwan, R.O.C., IEEE Fellow in 2004, and IFAC Fellow in 2017. He is now serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Journal of Control as well as Advisory Committee member of Asian Control Association, and has served as Vice-President of IEEE Control Systems Society from 2017~2018. His research interests include social robotics, smart home, visual detection and tracking, virtual reality, and control theory & applications.

Dr. Chao-Chieh Lan

Chao-Chieh Lan received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from National Taiwan University, Taiwan, in 2000 and Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2006. He is currently a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. He is currently interested in compliant actuators, robotic manipulators, and mechanism dynamics.

Dr. Jia-Yang Juang

Professor and Chair, Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Taiwan University

Dr. Jia-Yang Juang received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from National Taiwan University in 1997 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006, all in Mechanical Engineering. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as a Research Staff Member and Senior Principal Engineer at Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and Western Digital Corp., respectively, in Silicon Valley, California. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering faculty at National Taiwan University in 2011 and is now a full professor and department chair.
Dr. Juang's research interests include (1) Soft robotics, (2) Bioinspired design, (3) Thin-film materials, and (4) Machine learning. He holds 16 granted United States patents, one China patent, and several pending United States patents. He has published over 58 journal papers and 55 conference papers. He is on the editorial board of two journals. He has reviewed manuscripts for over 75 journals, including Science Robotics, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Science, and Materials Today. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Member of ASME. He was awarded the 2021 ASME ISPS Distinguished Speaker Award. He received the NSTC Outstanding Research Award in 2024.

Dr. Yung-Yao Chen

Yung-Yao Chen received his B.S. (2004) and M.S. (2006) degrees in Electrical and Control Engineering from the National Chiao Tung University from Hsinchu, Taiwan, and his Ph.D. (2013) degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, USA. Before being a faculty, he has worked in HP Labs - Printing and Content Delivery Lab (HPL - PCDL) about one year. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and the Co-Director of Taiwan Tech Smart Electric Vehicle Research Center, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei, Taiwan. His current research interests include vision-based automation, automated/wisdom factory, self-driving car, and human-computer interaction. Dr. Chen was the recipient of the Best Paper Award of the International conference on Advanced Robotics and Intelligent Systems, the Rotary Foundational Scholarship, and the Ta-Yu Wu Memorial Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). He is a member of Golden Key International Honor Society and Phi Tau Phi.

Dr. Yen-Chen Liu

Professor, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan

Dr. Liu received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and the Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, MD, USA, in 2012. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan. His current research interests include control of networked robotic systems, bilateral teleoperation, multi-robot systems, mobile robot network, and human-robot interaction.
Dr. Liu was a recipient of the Ta-You Wu Memorial Award, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Taiwan, 2016, the Kwoh-Ting Li Researcher Award, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, 2018, the Young Scholar Fellowship -Columbus Program, MOST, Taiwan, 2019, and the Best Young Professional Member Award, IEEE Tainan Section, 2020. Recently, he received the Outstanding Research Award, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), Taiwan, 2023.
